ARTIST VOICE
My name is Aleksey Shchigalev, I am an artist. I was born in the village of Ust-Chernaya, Perm Region. From my education I am an engineer of metallurgical equipment.
Works from the series “Let's go to the mountain to look!”, presented in the Graphic Gallery, are connected with the places where I was born and grew up. These are the village of Ust-Chernaya and the town of Chusovoy (Perm region). When my parents disassembled the house and moved it to Chusovoy, I was impressed by the topography of the area. Chusovoy was surrounded by mountains, the very beginning of the Ural Mountains from the west. My optics changed dramatically: now I could see the city from above.
The multi-layered graphics, made on a CNC machine, were based on years of hiking up the mountain near my home. I started documenting changes in the landscape with my camera back in 2005.
