MARGARITA FEOFANOVA

Lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia

Margarita Feofanova is a young artist who works across printmaking, experimental materials, and installation. Her practice explores the boundaries of perception and empathy, often addressing memory, national identity, nature, and bodily experience. Through techniques such as etching, aquatint, silkscreen, Feofanova creates delicate yet striking works that engage with both personal and collective trauma, generational memory, and the materiality of plants and human body. She often incorporates herbaria into her work, treating plants as silent witnesses and carriers of memory. Her visual language moves between the sentimental and the sharp, inviting viewers to shift their perspective and engage with the visible and the hidden.

ARTIST VOICE

What fascinates me is the fragility and complexity of memory—how it fractures and reforms, how it is stored not only in the mind, but also in the body, in landscapes, and even in plants. My work is a kind of intuitive mirror, where personal and collective experiences surface through print, paper, and found material. I often start from my own lived experience as someone shaped by two languages, two cultures, and the in-between. I am especially drawn to how printmaking as a medium carries its own memory – the trace of a plate, the pressure of the press and how it can speak in whispers, layers, or scars. I don’t aim to give answers. Rather, I invite people to look and feel again, to shift a little closer to something they may have forgotten, ignored, or never seen before.
